How to open svg files in Adobe Illustrator

SVG or Scalable vector graphics is an XML-based vector image format. It is supported by major vector editors like Adobe Illustrator, Inkscape or Corel Draw. However, not every SVG file will open properly in Adobe Illustrator. Complex vector files that consist of gradients, glows or shadows, might show errors or not open at all.
